How does the Clarus 3-in-1 Liquid Test Kit work?
Toggle Icon
  • Collect a water sample in the comparator block then add 5 drops of each reagent solution.
  • Gently invert to mix (do not mix) and compare the color to the chart provided.
  • You’ll get accurate readings for total chlorine, total bromine, and pH levels in seconds.
How often should I test my pool or spa water?
Toggle Icon
  • Swimming pools: Test at least twice a week, especially during peak season.
  • Hot tubs/spas: Test 2-3 times per week, as high temperatures can impact water chemistry faster.
What does this test kit measure?
Toggle Icon

This kit measures three key water quality parameters:

  • Total Chlorine – Helps ensure water is properly sanitized to prevent bacteria, algae, and cloudiness.
  • Total Bromine – Especially important in spas and hot tubs for maintaining safe, clear water.
  • pH – Critical for swimmer comfort, chemical balance, and preventing scale or corrosion.Maintain sanitizer levels within the range recommended by your pool chemical manufacturer or local code. Common targets are:
  • pH (pools & spas): 7.4 – 7.6
  • Chlorine (pools): 1 – 3 ppm
  • Bromine (spas): 3 – 5 ppmNote: Ranges may vary depending on product, region, or system type. Always follow the guidance provided with your sanitizer.
Why is regular water testing important?
Toggle Icon
  • Balanced water chemistry protects swimmers, prevents skin & eye irritation, and extends the life of your pool or spa equipment.
  • Routine testing saves you money on chemicals and reduces the risk of cloudy water, scaling, and algae buildup.
Can I use this kit for both freshwater and saltwater pools?
Toggle Icon

Yes! The Clarus 3-in-1 Liquid Test Kit is compatible with both freshwater and saltwater systems in pools, hot tubs, and spas.

How should I store my test kit?
Toggle Icon

To maintain accuracy:

  • Store reagents in the provided heavy-duty case.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
  • Tightly close reagent bottles after each use to prevent contamination.
How long does this test kit last?
Toggle Icon
  • Each kit includes enough reagent solution for up to 100 tests, making it a long-lasting, cost-effective option for routine water testing throughout the season.
  • For best accuracy, replace the reagent solutions every year or at the start of each pool season, even if there are tests remaining. Over time, reagents can lose effectiveness.
Why are my test results inconsistent?
Toggle Icon
  • Make sure you’re collecting the water sample from at least 18" below the surface, away from return jets or skimmers.
  • Always rinse the comparator block before and after each use to avoid residue buildup.
  • Gently invert the test block to mix—do not shake, as it may cause inaccurate color results.
  • Compare colors immediately after mixing. Waiting too long may cause the colors to fade or change.
Why do my chlorine levels seem low even after adding chemicals?
Toggle Icon
  • High levels of cyanuric acid (stabilizer) can bind to chlorine, reducing its effectiveness.
  • Organic contaminants in the water may be consuming chlorine—try shocking the pool or spa to restore balance.
  • Poor circulation or filtration can lead to uneven chemical distribution. Ensure your pump and filter are working properly.

Test at multiple spots in the pool to confirm even sanitizer levels.

What’s the difference between test strips and liquid test kits? Which is better?
Toggle Icon
  • Test Strips: Super quick and convenient—dip, wait a few seconds, compare. Great for daily spot‑checks and quick peace of mind.
  • Liquid (Drop) Kits: A few extra steps (add drops, mix, color‑match), but typically deliver tighter, more reliable readings especially for pH and total chlorine/bromine when you’re dialing in balance.

Use strips for fast, frequent checks (daily or before a swim/soak). Use the liquid kit for weekly balancing, troubleshooting, or when readings look off and you want higher accuracy. Many pool & spa owners keep both on hand: strips for speed, liquid for precision.
