How do I use Clarus 7-in-1 Test Strips correctly?
Toggle Icon

Dip a strip into your pool or spa water for 2 seconds, then hold it flat (do not shake) for 15 seconds.

Compare the colors to the chart on the bottle within 30 seconds for accurate results.

How often should I test my pool or spa water?
Toggle Icon
  • Swimming pools: Test at least twice a week, especially during peak season.
  • Hot tubs/spas: Test before each use or 2–3× per week, as heat affects water chemistry faster.
What do these test strips measure?
Toggle Icon

Clarus 7-in-1 Test Strips check the following water parameters:

  • Total Hardness – OK range: 250–500 ppm
  • Total Chlorine – OK range: 1–3 ppm
  • Total Bromine – OK range: 3–5 ppm
  • Free Chlorine – OK range: 1–3 ppm
  • pH – OK range: 7.2–7.8
  • Total Alkalinity – OK range: 80–120 ppm
  • Cyanuric Acid (Stabilizer) – OK range: 30–50 ppm

Note: Ideal ranges can vary by pool type, sanitizer product, and local conditions. Always follow your chemical manufacturer’s guidance.

Why test both Total Chlorine and Free Chlorine?
Toggle Icon
  • Free Chlorine is the active sanitizer that keeps water clean.
  • Total Chlorine includes both free chlorine and “used-up” combined chlorine.

If Total Chlorine is much higher than Free Chlorine, it may be time to shock the water.

Can I use these in saltwater pools?
Toggle Icon

Yes! These strips work for saltwater and freshwater systems.

Note: You’ll need a separate test kit to measure salinity in saltwater pools.

How should I store the test strips?
Toggle Icon
  • Keep strips sealed in their foil sleeves until ready to use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and humidity.
  • Avoid storing near pool chemicals, as fumes may affect accuracy.
How long do Clarus test strips last?
Toggle Icon
  • Shelf life: 12–24 months unopened
  • Once opened, use each sleeve within 3–6 months
  • Moisture-proof packaging helps preserve accuracy
Why are my test results inconsistent?
Toggle Icon
  • Sample water from elbow depth, away from jets or skimmers
  • Don’t touch the pads—finger oils can affect results
  • Compare colors within 30 seconds to avoid fading or drifting
Why do my chlorine levels read low even after adding chemicals?
Toggle Icon
  • High cyanuric acid (stabilizer) may be locking up free chlorine
  • Contaminants (like sunscreen or organics) may be using up sanitizer
  • Poor circulation or filtration can cause uneven chemical distribution
Are test strips better than liquid test kits?
Toggle Icon

Test Strips: Fast, simple, and ideal for routine testing—dip, wait, compare.
Liquid Kits: Slightly more precise, but require drops, mixing, and more time.
Most pool & spa owners use test strips for everyday checks and liquid kits for detailed checks.
