    What is it?

    Acanthamoeba is a chlorine-resistant, free-living amoeba found in water and soil. It can cause severe eye infections, skin lesions, and rare but life-threatening brain infections if it enters the body through wounds, the eyes, or nasal passages.

    Where does it come from?

    Acanthamoeba can be found in pools, spas, tap water, soil, and untreated water sources. It may survive in biofilm, plumbing systems, filters, and areas where sanitation or circulation is poor.
